Also just change the command-field similarly. If you launch it from your menu, there's usually a menu-editor to do this (depending on your DE). desktop-file, then just open that up with a text-editor and change the command-field to say "firefox -fullscreen". On Linux, this is usually rather straight forward. The Windows-part is untested and purely from memory, so I apologize for any inaccuracies.

The Destination-field should initially say " \firefox.exe", and you have to change it to say " \firefox.exe -fullscreen". On Linux, this is usually rather straight forward. If you're using a shortcut on your desktop (and probably also in the taskbar might have to detach it from the taskbar before you can edit it), then I believe you have to right-click on it, then select "Properties" and then change the Destination-field. On Windows, I believe you can't do it for the start-menu, but I might be wrong, you'd have to ask in /r/windows. If you don't know what I'm talking about, it's half as scary as it may sound to you, but it's unfortunately not the easiest thing to explain, as it depends on the OS and from where you launch it. If you know what I'm talking about, TL DR: Add "-fullscreen" as a flag to the command.
I don't know of any about:config-toggles for this, but if you want it to always open up in fullscreen, then you can modify the command with which your OS launches Firefox.
